MICHAEL DROSTE - REAL SOLUTIONS FOR PEORIA

Common Sense • Fiscal Discipline • Local Control

As a Write-In Candidate for the Peoria County Board, I am not beholden to party machines or special interests. My only obligation is to you, the taxpayer. Peoria County is at a crossroads. While we have made progress, we face rising assessments, aging infrastructure, and crucial decisions about public safety. Here is where I stand on the issues that matter most.

1. HOLDING THE LINE ON PROPERTY TAXES
The County often claims they "held the rate flat," but if your home’s assessment goes up, you still pay more. In the most recent budget cycle, the total property tax levy was set to increase by approximately 6.75% simply because property values rose.

• My Pledge: I will fight to lower the actual tax levy, not just the rate. When assessments rise, the tax rate should come down to keep your bill stable.

• Fiscal Watchdog: With a $174 million operating budget, we must scrutinize every dollar. I will oppose automatic spending increases and demand efficiency audits before asking taxpayers for a single cent more.

2. PUBLIC SAFETY & JAIL MODERNIZATION
A safe community is a prosperous community. The County Board recently allocated $3.5 million for pre-construction services to upgrade the Peoria County Jail. This is a massive, multi-year project that requires strict oversight to prevent cost overruns.

• Smart Investment: I support our Sheriff’s Office and the need for a modern, secure facility, but I will ensure these upgrades are completed on time and on budget.

• Transparency: I will demand clear, monthly reporting on the Jail Master Plan to ensure funds are going toward safety and security, not administrative bloat.

3. INFRASTRUCTURE: ROADS, BRIDGES & SEWERS
Our infrastructure is aging. From the Adams Street bridge replacement to the widening of Illinois 29, we have major projects underway that disrupt daily life and commerce. Furthermore, our stormwater systems are struggling to keep up, risking combined sewer overflows into the Illinois River.

• Prioritize Maintenance: I believe in "Fix It First." Before we build new amenities, we must repair our existing roads and failing sewer pipes to protect our homes from flooding and our cars from damage.

• Green Infrastructure: I support practical stormwater solutions that protect our river and comply with federal Clean Water Act standards without bankrupting local businesses.

4. LOCAL CONTROL & ZONING
Decisions about Peoria County should be made in Peoria County, not in Springfield.

• Energy Independence: I support the County’s legislative agenda to oppose state policies that strip away local control over zoning for green energy projects. Whether it’s solar or wind, local residents deserve a voice in what happens in their backyards.

• Responsible Development: I will champion zoning policies that protect our agricultural heritage while welcoming responsible business growth.

A NEW VOICE FOR PEORIA
We cannot keep doing the same things and expecting different results. It is time for leadership that listens, researches, and acts with your wallet in mind.
